MAY 17, palinku (poetic novelty): denial #3

a) Reprise of material posted on May 17 in previous years ...

2020: nuclear cardiology, published haiku verses (journal publication)
2021: palinku, hats (poetic novelty)
2022: palinku, Dennis's ongoing sin (poetic novelty)
2023: palinku, denial 3 (poetic novelty)

Tb) Today's Offering (May 17, 2024):

In this post, we continue with our novel form of poetic wordplay.

Inspired by Japanese haiku poetry, the "palinku" is a terse verse with a total of 17 syllables displayed on three lines. Unlike its earlier English-language forerunners, this concoction does not mandate the precise distribution of the syllables among the three lines, but does stipulate that each word in the poem be included in a palindromic phrase or sentence  (i.e. one that can be read either forwards or backwards).

To help the reader discern the origin of the lyrics, each palindrome, generally occupying one of the three lines of the poem, has been color-coded. Readers will note that we have been publishing verses of this type on the 17th of each month.

MAY 14, Canadiana: dual citizenship

a) Reprise of material posted on May 14 in previous years ...

2020: American satire, "It is what it is" (poem)
2021: Panama palindrome, a cat, a hat (illustrated poem)
2022: waterfowl, Swan Lake S.C. (live-photo collage)
2023: reminiscences, Mother's Day (photo-collage)

b) Today's Offering (May 14, 2024):

poetry lyrics:/ In my family each member's a "dual"/ Except me;
fate inspiring pursual/ Of a brave leader who'll/ Refuel US renewal/
And reverse proposed policies cruel (Such as citizen birthright renewal)!

Authors' Note: In the US recently, there has been a concerted effort to pin many of society's putative ills on immigrants. In Canada, on the other hand, the significant portion of citizens who hold two passports is honoured. Commonly, through training programs and other personal initiatives (e.g., marriage), the US is the second country involved.

As a feature left over from earlier times, when there were fewer global immigrants, the expression dual citizen, or even more curtly dual, is assumed by Canadians to imply, failing further specification, a person who holds citizenship in both the US and Canada.

The verb subdue, and its derivatives seem to derive from a different linguistic root.

b) Today's Offering (May 13, 2024):

Authors' Note: Baha'i, sometimes known as "the youngest of the world's main religions", promotes universal brotherhood and spiritual unity. Members of the faith, like my dental hygienist, make pilgrimages to northern Israel, where there is a complex of sites including the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa, and temples in which the sect's Prophet-Herald, the Bab, and its Prophet-Founder, Baha'i-u'llah, are interred.

b) Today's Offering (May 10, 2024):
poetry lyrics:/ Old Doc Specter said, "I'm not that keen/ To replace my old scanning machine./
Yet great prospects for PET/ Greet today's younger set -- / Bet their future's with fluorine-18."

Authors' Note: The new high-tech modality PET entails 'coincidence imaging' with positron emitters, such as fluorine-18, unusual drugs that give off two gamma-rays simultaneously in exactly opposite direction with each radiodecay event. In contrast, older technology with standard radiolabels, often designated by the initialism 'SPECT' (single-photon emission computed tomography) was used by imaging  specialists such as our protagonist 'Dr. Specter'.
