c AUG 16, American satire: strumpidity -- neologism for our times

STRUMPIDITY

What's needed is a term for an offbeat view of US prosperity and the economic situation at the end of the nineteenth century. A few feel that insight might warrant a Nobel Prize, or perhaps there's one to be awarded for bullying/bribing two warring parties into a peace treaty.

POEM

He's dissolved the world order -- fluidity,

Though adored by enablers -- cupidity.

When he's finally dumpèd

We'll portray it as "STRUMPID" --

An era that honored stupidity.

Giorgio Coniglio

HAIKU (17-syllable)

strumpidity: a

neologism target --

such peculiar times !

Giorgio Coniglio

AUG 13, reprehensible modern history: The Turco-Italian war

poetry lyrics:/ A historic mistake I deplore:/ the Turco-Italian war./ On the web
it's explorable./ Repercussions are horrible./ Have you heard of this conflict before?

Authors' Note: The Italo-Turkish War, also known as the Turco-Italian War, 1911–1912, was among the neo-colonial adventures pushed by the European powers (Britain, France, Italy, etc.) who took advantage of the decline of Ottoman Turkey just before the outbreak of the First World War. The territories conquered by the Italians (most of current-day Libya and also the Dodecanese islands in the Aegean Sea) remained under their control through the Second World War, with Mussolini's National Fascist party in power in the Kingdom of Italy for most of this period (1922–1943).
The treaty to end the conflict was named after the resort facility in Lausanne, Switzerland at which it was signed by the belligerents, becoming known as the Treaty of Ouchy (oo-SHEE).

c AUG 10: American satire: on reflection

  ON  REFLECTION

On reflection, the charges were quaint,

As I acted with tact and restraint:

Prosecutor (distortion),

"Damage done? A whole portion."

"Makes you think I'm a vandal. I AIN'T!"

c AUG 7, reprehensible modern history: sheep in Britain

SHEEP IN BRITAIN

'Til the 17th C, Britons reap

Productivity based on their sheep.

And then factories and mining

Bring about redefining.

But the cost to change cloth isn't cheap.

Giorgio Coniglio

c AUG 4, bar-fauna: slyly

  SLYLY

Here's a story 'bout "Soda-And-Gin":

As we open, a floozy struts in.

She inquires, "What's on tap?,"

Slyly loosens a strap;

Then the barkeep committed a sin.

Giorgio Coniglio
