MAR 29, 2026, patients and maladies: knee effusion

Authors' Note: This verse resulted from the author’s personal experience (as patient).
Following trauma, standard X-rays taken in the Emergency Department show most fractures where the bone fragments are displaced. They can not, however, diagnose many undisplaced fractures, particularly in elderly patients with reduced bone density.
Nonspecific swelling with evidence of leaking of fluid into the adjacent joint space (joint effusion) is particularly common in injuries about the knee, and is easily discerned on visual inspection and X-rays. Follow up radiographs after another 3 weeks sometimes display an initially missed healing fracture. In cases where instability, ongoing pain, or persistent effusion are prominent, injury to ligaments may be suspected.

MAR 27, 2026, American satire: "No Kings" protest rallies

poetry lyrics:/ "Fire the jesters", that vow is provoking/ Common folks to protest and,
no joking./ They'll defend their free speech/ (They might choose to impeach)./
His responses their rancor is stoking.

MAR 19, 2026, postal places, Canada: Antigonish, NS

Authors' Note: NS is the official abbreviation for the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, in which the town of Antigonish, population 4,700, is located on the shore of Northumberland Strait, a source of excellent local seafood.

Based on an aboriginal Mi'kmak name, the town was founded in 1784 by a land grant from the British crown. It is now the home of the annual Antigonish Highland Games, and of Sir Francis Xavier University, highly reputed on a national level for undergraduate teaching.

MAR 15, 2026, mammalian wildlife: "selfie with bison"

Authors' Note: It's hard to believe that there was a 'responsible driver' who let this young person out of the car to take this picture (isolated from a published video), but there you are.

In national parks in both Canada and the United States, there are fines imposed for approaching wildlife too closely, and signage usually makes this abundantly clear.

A verse, and more pictures of the American bison (buffalo), can be found on this post.
