poetry lyrics:/ Our publicist (city epistler)/  Posted jobs to consider in Whistler,/
BC. "Work in pairs/ In restraining our bears;/ Or, alone, as a landscape de-thistler."

Authors' Note: BC is the official abbreviation for the Canadian province of British Columbia in which the resort-municipality of Whistler, permanent population 14,000, is located. Two million tourists visit Whistler annually for winter alpine sports, and for the summer pastimes of hiking and mountain biking.

Prior to European settlement, the site was the shared territory of the Squamish and Lil'wat First Nations. Trappers and prospectors were gradually attracted, but completion of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway in 1914 provided easy access from Vancouver, and brought logging and escalating tourism. The resort-city is named for the call of the hoary marmot, a ground squirrel dwelling at high elevations. The Whistler-Blackcomb area served as a major venue for "Vancouver 2010", the twenty-first Olympic Winter Games.

You can read more about the hoary marmot in another of our verses HERE.

MAR 25, submitted palindromes: RANDOM PILES 27

You have reached the "Submitted Palindromes" thread on the blog "Daily Edifying Nonsense", a light literary entity that emanates through the blogosphere daily (almost), i.e. 30 times per month.

On the 25th of each month you will find a slide-filling group of palindromic phrases submitted to the editors by a panel of 7 palindromists. These folks have all been working on this project since January 2020. The personal profiles for each of these contributors are displayed in panels published here at the start of things, and then, we have asked them to provide (palindromically, of course) their views on one of the iconic items in the classic literature, starting with "A man, a plan, a canal -- Panama", continuing with other well-known phrases, such as "Dennis sinned". Otherwise, their contribution will be grouped in monthly random piles (a phrase that you might recognize as an anagram of the word p-a-l-i-n-d-r-o-m-e-s).

You can access this delightful entertainment right here by entering submitted palindromes in one of the two search bars at the top of this post and scrolling downwards through the wordplay posts that you will discover, OR, just follow the links indicated above.
Devotees of palindromic wordplay can further explore limericks and other short verses about the classic palindromes (and quite a few recent concoctions) that are randomly scattered on this blog after September 2000, or collected into grouped postings on our more scholarly blog "Edifying Nonsense" -- start HERE.

 song might get sung.

poetry lyrics:/ "Honorifics:" says 'Mayor Al T.',/ Comic doctor with bogus M.D.,/
They are spiffy in spoofs/ And especially in goofs,/ Like Your Lowliness
and Holey Sea."

Authors' Note:  As pointed out by our comic interpreter and apocryphal city politician Dr. Al, titles and honorifics are often used in comic routines, such as those of the "Three Stooges" and "Monty Python", and in performers' pseudonyms like Dr. Demento and Dr. John.

Our blogpost "Defining Opinion" on the topic-based blog "Edifying Nonsense" shows a selection of similar verses submitted to OEDILF (the online Omnificent English Dictionary in Limerick Form). You can see all of these on one visit by clicking HERE.

2022: organic brain poetry, non-organic vs organic (poem)
2023: classic palindrome, no D, no L -- London (wordplay)

 b) Today's Offering (Mar 22, 2024):
poetry lyrics:/ In the frontal lobes, meningioma/ Presses on, slowly grows in its stroma./
Bizarre thoughts are expressed;/ vicious acts unredressed --/  Symptoms med- students learn pre-diploma.

Authors' Note:

stroma: connective tissue that supports normal body structures and, on occasion, abnormal growths

Meningioma is a not-uncommon slowly growing benign tumor within the cranium. Pressure on adjacent portions of normal brain induce neurological symptoms. When the tumor is located in the frontal cortex, neuropsychiatric manifestations may include bizarre thoughts, frequently paranoid, and unrepressed behavior. Fortunately, the tumors, when suspected, are readily diagnosed on neuro-imaging studies, and surgical therapy is often curative.

Brain tumours account for only a small portion of patients suffering such neuropsychiatric symptoms; however, medical practitioners frequently hope that such a correctable cause may be discovered.

MAR 21, pill-popping verse: simethicone for abdominal bloating

a) Reprise of material posted on March 21 in previous years ...

2020: Charleston garden, tractor-seat plant (illustrated poem)
2021: commercial product, Dust, furniture protector (poem)
2022: reptiles, anole pole-dancer (photo-collage)
2023: defining opinion, post-mortem exam (autopsy) (poem)

Tb) Today's Offering (Mar 21, 2024):

poetry lyrics:/ Abdominal gas, an incursion?/ Belly bloating not helped
by inversion?/ Surface tension gos down/ And that gas will leave town,/ When simethicone
 aids its dispersion.

Authors' Note: Simethicone (simeticone), a silicon-based product, is the active ingredient in most current over-the-counter remedies to relieve abdominal distension and gaseous bloating. The medicine aids in the  coalescence of the offending small bubbles, that the body can then eliminate with dispersed by flatulence and belching. On the other hand, physical maneuvers such as turning upside-down (inversion) are unlikely to provide symptomatic relief.
